1-4 October Camera Japan Festival
Discover the many facets of Japan at CAMERA JAPAN Festival, the largest Japanese film festival in the Benelux. Alongside Japanese arthouse, animation, and classic films, the festival celebrates Japanese culture through art, music, dance and food.
10 October Grachtenrace
The Amsterdam Grachtenrace is a sporting event for rowing teams from Amsterdam and beyond. More than 135 teams take on a challenging 25-kilometre rowing race through the heart of the city, passing under bridges and through Amsterdam’s historic canals.
17-18 October TCS Amsterdam Marathon
On Saturday, 17 October, the programme includes the Amsterdam City Walk, Kids Run, Heroes Run and 7.5K, as well as the Marathon Expo at RAI Amsterdam.
On Sunday, 18 October, runners take on the TCS Amsterdam Marathon and Mizuno Half Marathon. The marathon route passes several of Amsterdam’s landmarks, including the Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark, before finishing at the Olympic Stadium.
21-25 October ADE
Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) bringing electronic music to venues across the city. With more than 1,200 events taking place at over 300 venues, the programme includes club nights, live performances, daytime events and cultural programmes. Alongside the festival, ADE also hosts a conference for music professionals from around the world.
31 October Halloween
Halloween in Amsterdam has something for all ages. Families can enjoy pumpkin carving, costumes and trick-or-treating at events such as the Kids Halloween Costume Ball or the Halloween Weekend at the Pluktuin in Amstelveen. For adults, the city comes alive after dark with themed parties and events, including Amsterdam Halloween: The Ring at WesterUnie and Halloween nights at venues across the city.

Our rooms and suites have welcomed generations of guests, while our culinary story has continued to unfold. In 2002, Yamazato became the first traditional kaiseki restaurant in the world to receive a Michelin Star, followed by Ciel Bleu receiving two Michelin Stars in 2007.

A zwaar blond is supposed to be an anchor: full-bodied, creamy, and grounded. The kind of beer that sits heavy and satisfied.
But when Arjan Speelman, the Executive Chef from Ciel Bleu, walked into the brewery with Kasu, Sichuan, and Sancho, that weight transformed into possibility. Kasu, the lees left behind after sake is pressed, has the flavour of fermentation. Sichuan, the Chinese peppercorn known for its warmth on the tongue. And sansho, with a citrus edge closer to yuzu.
Wietse Postma tasted them one by one. They tested, refined, and built the recipe around the idea that heaviness could be delicate. That cream could carry citrus. That sweetness could live alongside something substantial and serious.
This collaboration has had four editions, and this one may be the most ambitious: a beer that refuses to choose between two sides. It’s full and unexpected. Creamy and bright. A zwaar blond that tastes like it was made by people who wanted to surprise you.

Grachtenfestival | 7–16 August | Across Amsterdam
The Netherlands' largest classical-music and jazz festival returns for its 29th edition, themed "Flow." For ten days, courtyards, churches, rooftops and floating pontoons become pop-up concert halls showcasing young talent, with many performances free. This year the festival enters the Rijksmuseum for the first time, closing with the beloved free Prinsengrachtconcert on 22 August.
Pluk de Nacht — Open-Air Film Festival | 19–29 August | Het Stenen Hoofd
For over 20 years, this open-air festival has brought balmy summer evenings of film to the waterfront at Het Stenen Hoofd, complete with beach chairs, warm blankets, a campfire, and cocktails. A giant screen showcases national and international features, documentaries, shorts and animations not yet released in Dutch cinemas, and admission is free.

At Yamazato, sashimi is part of Mukōzuke, the raw course in a kaiseki meal. The cutting itself has its own name: Tsukuri, meaning creation. In Japan, the discipline is taken so seriously that an older word for the kitchen knife, hōchō-gatana, translated as the sword of the cook.
Each piece is chosen for the season, sliced with care, and arranged to honour the fish itself, its colour, and its texture.

On 19 June, we had the profound honour of welcoming back Their Majesties The Emperor and The Empress of Japan for an event at our hotel, during their state visit to the Netherlands.
It was a homecoming of sorts. The Empress herself reflected: “This brings back good memories of our previous visit” — a reference to 2013, and a reminder of the thread of trust that runs between Japan and the Netherlands across more than four centuries of shared history.
Over the course of eight days, we also had the privilege of hosting a significant part of the Japanese delegation. Their warmth, and the gratitude they expressed to our team, was deeply moving.
It was, without a doubt, an extraordinarily special occasion for all of us.
In 1971, a Japanese hotel group looked west, to a country that had been trading with Japan for four hundred years. They chose Amsterdam.
Half a century later, our sommeliers asked a question: what would the house wine of that meeting taste like?
The answer wasn't in Champagne. It was an hour south of us, in Limburg, where Wijndomein Sint Martinus farms one of the oldest vineyards in the Netherlands. Together, we made Cuvée Okura, a Dutch sparkling wine, méthode traditionnelle, with the precision of a Japanese hand on the dosage.

There is a moment, just before a guest arrives, when our team gathers in the lobby. Flowers are checked. A name is spoken aloud, so it will not be forgotten. Someone adjusts the angle of a chair that no one will notice has been adjusted.

To be named again in the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Best of the Best, among the finest in the Netherlands, is something we receive with both pride and humility. The recognition is not ours alone. Alexandra, from our very own team, took inspiration from her deep Greek roots to craft a unique twist on the classic drink. She calls it the Elysian Old Fashioned.
She starts with @woodfordreserve Whisky and elevates it with honey syrup (a staple in Greek cuisine), a dash of cucumber bitters for a fresh, Mediterranean lift, and the distinctive Mastiha liqueur. Mastiha is a unique speciality from the Greek island of Chios, made from the resin of the mastic tree.
